Kanha National Park – Tiger Reserve & Wildlife Safari | Madhya Pradesh Tourism

Kanha National Park, located in the heart of Madhya Pradesh, is one of India’s most celebrated wildlife reserves and a major attraction for nature lovers. Spread across the districts of Mandla and Balaghat, the park covers nearly 940 square kilometers of dense forests, meadows, and river valleys, making it one of the largest national parks in Central India.

Declared a tiger reserve in 1973 under Project Tiger, Kanha is renowned for its healthy population of Bengal tigers. It is also famous as the last refuge of the hard ground barasingha (swamp deer), which was brought back from the brink of extinction through successful conservation efforts. The park’s rich biodiversity includes leopards, wild dogs, sloth bears, gaur, and over 300 bird species, offering visitors a complete wildlife experience.

Kanha's scenic beauty, with sal and bamboo forests, grassy meadows, and crystal-clear streams, inspired Rudyard Kipling’s world-famous classic The Jungle Book. Visitors can explore the park through thrilling jeep safaris and elephant rides, which provide opportunities to spot tigers and other wildlife in their natural habitat.

The park is divided into four main zones: Kanha, Kisli, Mukki, and Sarhi, each offering unique landscapes and sightings. The best time to visit is from October to June, as the park remains closed during the monsoon season.Kanha National Park is not just a wildlife destination but a symbol of India’s commitment to conservation, making it a must-visit for safari enthusiasts and nature seekers in Madhya Pradesh.
